Nico Rosberg v/s Lewis Hamilton was one of the biggest intra-team rivalries in F1. It was such an iconic rivalry that it even got a name like the major wars in History. Fans called it ‘The Silver War’. Rosberg has time and again said in the media how Hamilton was the toughest person to beat in the same machinery. And recently, he’s opened up on how his family urged him to take up boxing to beat Hamilton.

The summer break in F1 is known for many things. It is called the ‘Silly Season’ because rumors of drivers changing teams start popping up. During this period, teams bring in new upgrades and show better performance in the races following the break. On the latest episode of the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Nico Rosberg was asked about the obvious point of the summer break – which is the vacation break for drivers and teams. In response, the German racer spoke about how his family poked fun at him during the summer break, for not being able to get back at his Mercedes arch-nemesis.

At the 2016 Spanish GP, the two Mercedes drivers made contact on the straight and knocked each other out of the race. And eventually, the Dutchman took victory in Spain. But with that accident, Rosberg missed out on his 8th consecutive win in F1.

Now that Verstappen is looking to get his 8th consecutive win in Spa, Rosberg has jokingly brought back the 2016 Spanish GP to rub salt in Hamiton’s wounds. “Yeah, that was quite cool,” he said. “I would have had eight if Lewis hadn’t have shunted me off in Barcelona, for those of you who remember that race in 2016.” But Rosberg made sure that he lets the audience know that he was joking. “I’m laughing by the way for those of you who can’t see me now because that was a joke.”
