Pierre Gasly has been performing incredibly well for AlphaTauri, the Italian outfit he joined back in 2020. He and Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda have become a beloved Formula 1 Pairing.

Gasly initially began his F1 career with Toro Rosso in 2017. He later shifted to Formula One giants, Red Bull Racing. However, he had a short stint with the Austrian team and wasn’t able to match the flourishing Max Verstappen.

As a result, Red Bull was quick to drop him after just 6 months with them. However, Gasly was still a part of the family, as he started for Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri.

Were Red Bull too quick to drop Pierre Gasly?

Gasly since the downfall has given some amazing performances for Tauri, managing to get three podiums and a win in Italy. Additionally, the Frenchman’s stats speak volumes while he drives for a car that barely qualifies as average midfield machinery.

While initially upset when dropped from the Red Bull seat, Pierre has since worked very hard to work his way up. Unsurprisingly, many people claim that parking Gasly in a secondary team is a loss for Red Bull and believe that he deserves a seat alongside Verstappen for 2023.

While Sergio Perez has retained his Red Bull seat till 2022, it might not last. Gasly, under the circumstances, seems like the most preferable candidate to get the seat for 2023.

Gasly confident of a second chance at Red Bull

Gasly’s contract with AlphaTauri ends in 2022, and in a recent interview, he claimed that he is “very confident” of another successful season. He clearly stated that “he is ready to make the switch” and would discuss his future with Helmut Marko. However, Gasly wants a race winning car and might not hesitate to leave the Red Bull family if not provided the chance.

Motorsports reports that he said, “Helmut [Marko] has already said it, so it’s no secret anymore that after this year I still have one year left on my contract.

“Then it is clear: either we make the step to Red Bull or not. What happens next, it’s way too early to talk about that. I am now focusing on this year, that it goes as well as possible. But obviously I want to be in a fast car that I can fight for wins with. That’s all that matters to me. I want to win races in Formula 1 and I need a car that allows me to do that. We will discuss it with Helmut when the time is right.”

Gasly currently is the number one driver for AlphaTauri. He clocked in the fastest lap for them during pre-season testing and managed an impressive 187 laps over two days.

He is also very optimistic about the new season, “I have a lot of confidence in it,” he said. “I am very satisfied with the people I have around me now. I am very happy with my engineers, the way we function as a team and the responsibilities I carry within the team. I must say that I am comfortable in my own skin. I know I’m in for an important year in my career when it comes to taking the next step.

“Last year was fantastic and this year I hope to show at least the same, or even more. I want to bring this team as far forward as possible on the grid. That is my personal goal.”

Pierre, however, accidentally crashed the car on the last day of testing. But we all know that the Frenchman can always bounce back and stun the racing fraternity.
