Gasly Opens up on How AlphaTauri Can Beat Ferrari in the 2020 F1 Championship

Scuderia AlphaTauri have been one of the most unpredictable teams this season. Although they showed an incredible pace at some tracks, things would be upside down at other tracks. Amid such unpredictability, Pierre Gasly believes that his team can finish ahead of the Ferrari on the constructors’ table.
Gasly revealed that AlphaTauri’s target is the struggling Prancing Horses. “We know that [Ferrari] is obviously the next team ahead of us. And that’s why it should be our next target,” he said.
Gasly also mentioned that his team is aware of the upgrades Ferrari has been bringing to its cars every race weekend. “Obviously, we know Ferrari is pushing hard updates pretty much every weekend. And in terms of their performance, I think we are not far from them. And we have six more races remaining, 13 points. We need to outscore them more than two points every weekend.”

“It’s a difficult target, obviously considering their pace at the moment, but not unachievable. That’s why as a team it’ll be very important that we maximize our opportunities with the two cars and try to get very strong results until the end of this year,” Gasly added.
As of now, Ferrari is still within catching distance of AlphaTauri. But it needs to stay that way for the Alphas to leap ahead of the Prancing Stallion.
Considering Ferrari’s pace at the moment, it is definitely a tough ask for AlphaTauri to finish the 2020 season ahead of it. But the latter, too, has shown decent enough pace to take its fight to Ferrari.
Gasly believes the Ferrari cars have better grip
Gasly felt that Ferrari now has better balance and grip compared to the early part of this season. “I think their pace is evolving so much from track to track. And, also recently looking at Ferrari’s pace in the last two races, they seem to have made a pretty big step in terms of grip limited sections and in the corners,” he said. “I think in the medium corners at the moment we’re struggling compared to them. A bit of balance, we’re not like really far off from them, but clearly lacking a bit of pace.
“I think low speeds, some tracks we seem to do well, some other tracks they seem to be slightly better. But generally, they have a bit more downforce than we have,” Gasly added.

Ferrari has brought in quite a lot of upgrades to its cars and has looked like a prime contender for the top 7 in the recent races. But it could get a bit harder for Ferrari in the coming races.
Ever since the start of this season, Ferrari has lacked something that the other teams have been better at. And that is straight-line speed. With race weekends like Bahrain, Turkey, and Abu Dhabi coming up, Ferrari will have a huge amount of pressure from a lot of other teams on the track.

Despite bringing multiple numbers of updates to its cars, Ferrari could still be vulnerable to AlphaTauri at certain upcoming circuits. Hence, the fight between the two Scuderias is likely to go on until the curtain falls over this season.
