F1 canceled the Russian Grand Prix for the 2022 season amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The sport was due to visit the country and host a race in September. But its cancellation means that currently, the 2022 season will consist of 22 races.
However, the F1 management is confident that they can soon find a replacement for the Russian Grand Prix. There have been a few names thrown into the conversation of replacements. And as of now, it looks like the Portuguese Grand Prix is leading that conversation.

The circuit recently confirmed that it is holding talks with F1 currently. It is also surprising that F1 did not consider going to Germany after its last visit in 2020.

As reported by The Race, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed that replacing the Russian Grand Prix won’t be a problem for them. He insisted on the fact that the 2022 season will have 23 races. He mentioned, there is a greater interest from various countries to host an F1 race.

“If you are talking specifically about the situation this year because of the Russian situation, I just can confirm to you that we have already proven last year, in the last couple of years, to be very flexible and not to have any problem in finding a possible solution to that,” said Stefano Domenicali.
