Incoming president Mohammed ben Sulayem recently remarked that the Abu Dhabi action plan will certainly protect FIA’s integrity. The F1 Commission met on Monday in London to discuss the recommendations from the topmost body in the wake of the Abu Dhabi review. Red Bull boss Christian Horner and his Mercedes counterpart Toto Wolff also attended this close-quarter meeting.

One thing which most of us will agree on is that the FIA’s credibility is under a serious threat. At one stage, it looked like the sport is going to lose its greatest ever driver because of some controversial decisions from the racing committee. However, that didn’t happen as Lewis Hamilton decided to make a comeback after two months of silence.

Integrity of the FIA will always be intact: Ben Sulayem

The statement released by the FIA after the meeting yesterday revealed that President Sulayem will publicly present news of structural changes and action plans in the coming days. However, there is largely disbelief among the F1 fans that the FIA will refrain from making any structural changes.

In a recent interview, Sulayem discussed the progress on this issue. He also said that the FIA will keep working to maintain its integrity. “We agreed on certain things, and the analysis is still going on, but it will come soon,” he said about the Abu Dhabi investigation. “It was a good discussion there…(and) information will be announced,” said Sulayem.

“But definitely, as we said, the integrity of the FIA will always be intact. I am elected to do that, but also to have fair motorsport: that’s my duty. So, it was a very good meeting.”

“We went through a lot of important things for the season, so I expect a good F1 season. We can only go forward. This is important for the FIA, for the integrity of the FIA, and for the sport. We can only improve the future,” added Sulayem.

Now, the FIA needs to work on saving its prestige and tarnished image among its fans. Major changes might include reorganizing and expanding the race committee.
