After 7 long years, the F1 action returns to the Nurburgring. At the last race here, Romain Grosjean, driving for an exceptionally good Lotus team at the time, made some treasured memories. However, in hindsight, the Frenchman believes that he deserved to get more out of that race.

At the 2013 German Grand Prix, Grosjean crossed the chequered flag in P3. He finished behind race winner Sebastian Vettel and Lotus teammate Kimi Raikkonen. While a podium finish may seem a brilliant result, Grosjean reveals a definite win was cruelly denied.

Reflecting on that race, he said, “I was very happy with my weekend, but I should have won the race. It was pretty clear I was going to win the race until the safety car.

“Yes, a podium finish is always mega. But missing out on the win was a big thing – I really had a big lead. No hard feelings though, it was a good race on a great track, and obviously, a podium in Formula 1 is always super good.”

To date, the 2013 season remains Grosjean’s best season in the sport of Formula 1. He ended the season in 7th place on the Drivers’ Championship standings and finished on the podium 6 times that season.

Romain Grosjean talks about the challenges that await the drivers at the Nurburgring

The Haas driver said, “The biggest challenge there will be the weather.” The weather reports predict that the Eifel Grand Prix is going to be a cold one with high chances of rain making the challenge even greater.

Apart from the environmental factor, the track itself could be tricky to navigate in a modern F1 car. Grosjean said, “I think the biggest challenge in a modern F1 car will be sector one, because of the weight of the car and the camber and so on.

“The first hairpin, there’s that big drop at the apex. Then turn three is a long corner with turn four. It’s obviously hard on the tires.”

Grosjean enjoyed a lot of success at the track the last time he raced here; however, he might not be so lucky this time. Therefore, don’t expect him to be anywhere near the frontrunners this time around.

After 10 races, Romain is yet to open his account for the season and he’ll be desperately hoping that he finishes among the Top-10 in 5 days’ time.
