The spotlight is on Formula 1, now more than ever. With the global reach and appeal of the sport growing exponentially, the stakeholders are getting busy figuring out ways they can maximize their profits. As a consequence, the sport finds itself surrounded by rumors every day. The latest chatter coming out of the rumor mill is that Liberty Media, the commercial rights holders of Formula 1 are looking for a suitable buyer to realize the massive profits F1 has garnered ever since their takeover.
Recently, the CEO of Liberty Media, Greg Maffei came out to strongly rubbish these claims. He was quoted as saying, “Anyone says that our friends the Saudis are going to buy it next week or something like that, if anybody knows us, they should know that’s just not in our cards.” But in doing so, the American has hinted at pushing another agenda. Safe to say, this hasn’t gone down too well with the fans of the sport.
⚠️ | Liberty Media is not looking to sell F1 and wants to add even more races to the calendar.

In a continuation to his response to the buyout rumors, Maffei said, “We have been able to add a few races and there’s maybe a little more room left there.” In the past, F1’s CEO Stefano Domenicali has come out with similar claims, and faced the wrath of the fans. Maffei was no different.

Recently, F1 and FIA caused controversy when FIA president Muhammed Ben Sulayem called the $20,000,000,000 price-tag on F1 inflated. A war of words ensued between F1 and the FIA. This just goes to show how much the monetary aspect is valued in the sport’s inner circles now. And this is exactly what the fans are bereaved about.
This level of greed is disgusting and ultimately detrimental to the sport. The lack of care for the people who make this sport what it is is just gross. https://t.co/TsgDNOER5D
