A P3 and P4 finish at the Turkish Grand Prix has allowed some glimmer of hope to seep into the minds of the Tifosi. Trudging through a rather troubled season, the team in the scarlet overalls saw their best result at the Istanbul Park.
Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto explained in an interview earlier that Ferrari might not be a primary contender for the championship next season either. However, he assured fans that they are planning to bounce back and regularly contend for podiums.
Ferrari piled up 27 quintessential points during their last outing on the tracks. They are currently at P6 with a chasm of 24 points separating them and P3.
Ralf Schumacher analyzed Ferrari’s chances of climbing up to the P3 positions. According to the report, “Ralf Schumacher rates the chances of overtaking these 3 teams in the final “triple header” in the Middle East “due to the engine deficit” as “almost zero”.”
Schumacher points out that Bahrain will not be quite as warm as it used to be. This is because Bahrain usually hosts the races earlier in the season. However, this year it is hosting the last leg because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The report states, “Due to its coarse-grained asphalt, the track is still “tire-killing” – and that is not considered Ferrari’s strength”. Schumacher further added, “I expect Red Bull to be very strong again, Renault could play a role there.”
According to Schumacher, it is unrealistic to believe that Leclerc and Vettel can drive Ferrari to P3. He believes that rain was a huge catalyst for them to put in a good race and they may not be so lucky in Bahrain.
However, Sebastian Vettel is hopeful for this weekend. He mentioned that standing up at the podium after so long and holding a trophy in his hands was beautiful.
He will look forward to getting everything out of the last few races he has left with Ferrari. Take as many points as possible. Meanwhile, Ferrari will look forward to continuing the momentum and climb up the ladder in the hopes of salvaging what’s left of this season.
