It’s always good to have a helping hand, isn’t it? In F1, Red Bull Racing finds itself in a pretty unique spot with AlphaTauri. Both teams are a subsidiary of Red Bull. However, in terms of seniority, Red Bull trumps AlphaTauri. Even though on paper they are competitors, on and off-track Red Bull arguably benefits from having AlphaTauri in the same division.

Lewis Hamilton was set to register his first win of the season at the Dutch Grand Prix yesterday. However, a bizarre late problem on Yuki Tsunoda’s car brought out a VSC and subsequently, a full Safety Car. Verstappen pitted under the Safety Car, maintaining track position and eventually winning his home race.

Amid all this, Toto Wolff has now demanded a full-blown inquiry into the matter. He fears that this AlphaTauri fiasco was an inspired attempt to help its sister team get a cheap pitstop and, consequently, a win.

“That probably changed the outcome of a race we maybe could have won.”

He went on to explain, “If we were fighting for a championship, this would be something I would closely look at. The simulation said Max would have come out eight seconds behind us and we would have had a fair shot, and the race planner said the win was on.”

Toto Wolff is not the only one who suspects something fishy with the whole situation. Even Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz felt that Max Verstappen’s victory at Zandvoort was all down to AlphaTauri and their goof-up.

Journalists are always quick to drum up some drama. However, you cannot blame Ted Kravitz after yesterday’s events. Yuki Tsunoda’s pitstop fiasco led to Max Verstappen securing a second consecutive Dutch Grand Prix win.

In his Ted’s Notebook series he said, “It was a win largely made by the sister team.”.

He went on, “There’s no upside, apart from making sure Max Verstappen has a nice day and wins his home race. They have already ‘won’ the championship.”
