Do you recall how Max Verstappen has already made multiple comments about how he would retire early from F1? While the retirement phase isn’t anywhere near, some may wonder what the Dutchman might do after retiring from the sport. Some suggest he’d race in the simulator. However, Max had also proposed the idea of racing in Le Mans, just like Fernando Alonso did during the late 2010s. But what are the chances that the Spaniard and the Dutchman pair up for Le Mans Glory? Quite high, as confirmed by Max Verstappen.

Fernando Alonso had a terrible spell with McLaren in the mid to late 2010s. To keep his love for racing alive, the two-time champion chose to race in some other series like Le Mans and IndyCar during that period. Fernando Alonso won Le Mans twice in 2018 and 2019. Despite already being 42, the Spaniard is as strong as ever in F1 and even has plans for the future. Alonso wants to race in the Le Mans once again.

However, he only plans to do so with Max Verstappen as his teammate. When asked about his dream team for the race, the Dutchman expressed how the Spaniard has been in contact with him regarding a possible Le Mans future. As Max Verstappen explained the weight rules of Le Mans, he revealed how Alonso, being a light driver, would be a great driver to team up with. The Dutchman is still on the hunt for the third driver, though.

Max Verstappen said on the Honda Racing Thanks Day, “I’ve been speaking to Fernando about it. He said he would only want to do it with me again. That would be really cool. The only thing is that for Le Mans, there is not really a weight limit for the driver. I’m quite a heavy driver, so I need to find a light teammate to compensate. But Fernando is quite light, so will be quite good. But Then we’ll need to find another one, so I need to have a look.”

The three-time champion said,I definitely will do Le Mans. It needs to also come together. I don’t want to just rock up there and fill up the field. If I enter, of course, I want to do it with good preparation. I want to do it so I will be able to win.” Talking about Aston Martin’s Le Mans comeback, he added, “I am very happy that they do it. I will definitely be watching. And maybe Fernando will be driving the car, so it’s going to be great.”
