Sprint races brought a new element to Formula 1 in the 2021 season. The Sprint weekends meant that there was exciting race action on every day of the Formula One weekend. Interestingly, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner mentioned that he prefers the traditional format over the Sprint format.
Horner revealed that the new format was exciting and interesting, but he is a purist and prefers the standard qualifying and race format over the Sprint races.

I am very purist: Christian Horner on Sprint races
As reported by Formula Passion, Christian believes the Sprint races format was not perfect last year. F1 is planning to host 6 Sprint races in the 2022 season, and the Red Bull boss believes there are still some adjustments to be made to the format.
“I am very purist. and I think that qualifying and the race are the fundamental aspects of a Grand Prix. I think the sprint races were interesting last year, even if I think the format was not perfect. But if you don’t feel something, you can’t know what it is like,” said Horner.

“There are things that could be done to make it more exciting and interesting. But now it is quite late and we will have to make a decision shortly,” said Christian.

The Red Bull team boss is correct in mentioning that the format needs reviewing. The sport also needs to look at the points system in the Sprint races so that it does not hamper the significance of the qualifying and main race.
