Red Bull are looking to build on their 2021 success going into the 2022 season. And it looks like the initial response of their RB18 on the track has been nothing but positive. Completing 147 laps, the Austrian team was second in place for most laps completed during the first day of Pre Season Testing in Barcelona, right after Ferrari. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is keeping a cautious approach to the season despite positive showings.

The team has also had the paddock talking in terms of their innovation on the sidepods design of the car. They are unique from every other team and may prove to be a game-changer. But Horner mentioned that they have to wait and see if the new design will make the best on the grid or worst.

We don’t know how quick it is, but the initial feedback is positive: Red Bull Team Boss

As reported by GPBlog, the Red Bull team boss mentioned they are not sure whether the side pods will make them quicker to other cars or not. He also revealed the initial response of world champion Max Verstappen, who completed over 147 laps on Day one, to the 2022 car.

”I think the team have done a wonderful job, obviously balancing the pressures of last year and developing the current car. We don’t know how quick it is, but the initial feedback is positive,”

“It looks different to our competitors but only time will tell if we’ve got it right. Max was happy with the balance this morning. It’s a get to know it process, before they get to work on performance”, said Horner.

Hopefully, all this performance is accurate as far as the Austrian team is concerned. They look like the class of the field after Day one of the running for the 2022 season.

The next Pre-Season test will happen in Bahrain in a couple of weeks and it would be interesting if the team still has the level of performance.
