The Dutchman was on his last flying lap with the last gasp attempt to go fastest. However, Verstappen was surprisingly asked to pit by his team on the lap. This was a lap that could have put him on the front of the grid according to data. Now, he will start the race from P8.
Red Bull pitted Verstappen in order to save fuel for the post-qualifying FIA’s fuel sample test. Failure to provide the sample would’ve put Verstappen at the back of the grid.
