Red Bull F1 Using Innovative Methods to Practice Pitstops

Aston Martin Red Bull F1 team holds the record for the fastest pit stop in the encloser. They broke the record for the fastest lap in Formula 1 last year at the Brazilian Grand Prix. In the race, Red Bull F1 completed a pit stop for Max Verstappen in 1.82 seconds. Additionally, they also won the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award by scoring 504 points and taking the fastest pit stop of the race in 9 races.

It is a well-known fact that Red Bull F1 has been using dummy cars to practice pit stops. And It’s obvious that even this year they are still using this innovative method to rehearse the pitstop.

After an F1 car goes into the pits for a practice stop, the mechanics have to push it back into the garage. This takes a lot of time and hard work on the mechanics’ part to push the car back and forth.

Red Bull F1 First Used The Electric ‘Dummy’ car in 2014

Red Bull F1 first showcased this all-electric dummy car in the 2014 season at Spa. The team started using an all-electric powered dummy car for the mechanics to practice pit stops.

Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport and Italy’s Autosprint were the first to break the story in 2014. They reported, “the reigning world champions’ electric prototype was in fact a 2013 Red Bull RB9 sporting a 2014 nose.

The mechanics in the cockpit can push a button and the car lurched backward to be ready for another stop.

The second winter testing begins today in Barcelona and after trying the pit stops, the team has to work for a long day. Albon will start the morning session for Red Bull, while Verstappen will take up the wheel in the afternoon session. The team will again target to gather as much information as possible during the day. And a few updates on the cars since the first test can be expected.
