Just two more rounds remain before Formula 1 heads into the summer break. It is a three-week break in August, where everything on and off the track shuts down. It further onsets the contract negotiations between the teams and the drivers.
One driver who is in his final year of the contract is Mick Schumacher. The German signed a one-year deal with Haas in 2021 and presently has no seat for 2023. In his quest to carry his father’s legacy, it would be a great spectacle to see where he ends up.

The 2022 season kicked off in a rough manner for the young driver. He had major crashes in Jeddah and Monaco, which put him under fire from the Haas boss.

However, with his recent run of form, he has found his voice in the pinnacle of motorsport. Mick Schumacher scored his maiden Formula 1 points at the British GP. He followed it up with another finish in the top 10 at the Red Bull Ring. Notably, he also clinched the driver of the day award at the Austria GP.
His recent performances has caught the attention of the Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko. After his home race, Marko opined on Mick’s performance by saying “If not for a technical problem in Montreal, he would have finished in the points there too,” (translated using google)
“He seems fired up now, apparently he needs that pressure and the criticism. That’s been the case throughout his career and especially in Formula 3.”
“When the going got tough, he would suddenly start winning race after race. Similar things happened in Formula 2, so it’s apparently part of his development work.” He added.
When asked if Schumacher can be associated with Red Bull in the future, Marko replied “Let’s say that we generally follow young drivers and Mick is worthy of interest.”
Would Mick Schumacher be a good fit at Red Bull?
Formula 1 operates in a dynamic environment where things change by the minute. It is a cut-throat competition with only 20 spots available on the grid as of now. The options are not extensive on the top of the grid as the top 4 teams already have their driver lineup confirmed for 2023.
The German racing driver is part of the Ferrari driver academy. This sets the course for him to join the Italian constructor in the future. His father, Michael Schumacher wore the red racing suit for 11 years. Remarkably, he won five world titles with the Italian racing stable.
The legacy of the Schumacher name associated with Ferrari makes it natural for Mick to see a future at the prancing horse.

However, at present the team has two young drivers in its ranks contracted until the end of 2024. This would delay the onset of Mick’s dream to race in the famous red car on the grid.
It can be costly for Ferrari, as the team from Milton Keynes can swoop in any time and lure the young talent away. Nevertheless, it is no guarantee that Mick will perform in a Red Bull car under him. Many talented drivers, like Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon, have been the victim of the curse of the second Red Bull seat.

Max Verstappen has arguably raised the performance benchmark in F1. Mick Schumacher can pair up with him in 2025 when Sergio Perez‘s deal expires with the team. Not only is the Red Bull car difficult to get on top of, but to have a world champion as your teammate can change the driver’s mind.
