Max Verstappen’s “Bed of Roses” will soon be shattered, declares F1 Legend

“An absurdly or surprisingly easy task” is how Google defines ‘cakewalk’. And that’s how Max Verstappen‘s last two seasons have panned out. Moreover, in only two race weekends in 2024, he has already established that this pattern will continue. All credit goes to him, Adrian Newey, and the entire team at Red Bull. But for how long can this continue is a question that the entire F1 world has. To answer that, Spanish F1 Legend, Luis Perez Sala came forward and predicted the Dutchman’s doomsday.
Most F1 analysts believe that Verstappen’s rivals can only upturn this wave of success in 2026 when the new regulations come in. However, former Minardi driver and ex-Team Principal of HRT Racing, Perez Sala believes that the Red Bull talisman’s reign won’t even last the entirety of 2024. There will be a certain shift in dynamics that will cause Verstappen’s dominance to slow down.
In an interview with Spanish publication AS, Perez Sala said, “It is true that he is a superb rider at the driving level and very powerful at the mental level, but each circuit has its own peculiar characteristics and there will be a moment of weakness for him.”

He further added, saying, “I don’t think the whole year will be a bed of roses and the rivals will keep pushing. Ferrari and Mercedes have taken a major step forward and McLaren is not far behind. I hope there will be a battle. I don’t think it’s a tyranny of victories like last season.”
Now this is a bold prediction and something away from what the majority believe. If the statement will stand the test of time will be an interesting thing to witness. However, Verstappen’s dominance doesn’t seem to be bothering everyone.

‘Boring’ is a term that fans used to describe F1 after the Dutchman started winning races by big margins. Frederic Vasseur even acknowledged that Verstappen had rendered Ferrari “useless”. Amid all this, his ex-teammate, Alex Albon, has recently come out to support him.
“Q1 [in Bahrain] was just over a second covering the whole field,” Albon told Tom Clarkson on the ‘Beyond the Grid’ podcast, and added. “Now, it’s more like you make a little mistake and you think ‘that’s two positions. That’s where F1 is going. In some ways, it’s a bit of a shame to see comments about Max and it being a boring season, because it’s totally not that.”
