Father and son double acts in Formula 1 are not that uncommon. The history of this sport is littered with some really awe-inspiring stories and stats. Graham and Damon Hill, Keke and Nico Rosberg, all of them have etched their names into the annals of F1 history with ‘double’ championship wins. Be that as it may, they’ve never won in the same era. Who could change that? Needless to say, when your own father is an ex-F1 driver, the notes you’d get, even when you make it to the sport, would be immense. And while Jos Verstappen is known to be a very hands-on F1 dad, the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix will always be an anomaly.

Max Verstappen pushed his Red Bull team into the loving arms of glory today with yet another dominant win at the Suzuka International Race Course. It was business as usual after the hiccup of the Singapore GP last weekend. And just like that, the Bulls were crowned the Constructors’ champions today. But in all the glory, one very important VIP of the RBR garage was missing. That’s right, Jos Verstappen chose to skip race day.

Jos ditches son for the greater good of the Verstappen clan

Verstappen single-handedly sealed the win for Red Bull on the day that Honda celebrated their 75th anniversary at the Japanese GP. Could it get more historic? Well, as it turns out, thanks to Verstappen’s father Jos, it just did.

While Verstappen was busy winning in Japan, Jos thought it would be a good idea to take it two wins for the Verstappens, as he bullied a rally car around in Belgium.

Verstappen.com relayed on Instagram, “Jos wins East Belgian Rally!! Double Verstappen wins this weekend!”

Jos Verstappen clinches historic Rally win against all odds

Under normal circumstances, we would not have had two Verstappens winning in one day. Luckily for the family name, however, 51-year-old Jos had an ace up his sleeves that helped him destroy the competition with ease.

After his historic win, he was quoted as saying, “It was an intense battle until the very last moment. I’m very happy. I didn’t think I would be able to fight with such an experienced driver as Cédric Cherain, especially because he knows these stages like the back of his hand. But thanks to the perfect notes of Renaud, my co-driver, I have made lots of progress.”

“And even in the evening, when it was dark, I trusted those notes so much that I could keep pushing as hard as possible. This really is a victory of the whole team.”
