More often than not, when we talk about a chaotic relationship, we think of a couple and/or partners in love. However, when it comes to Max Verstappen, it’s not Kelly Piquet that comes to mind. No, Verstappen’s relationship with his Brazilian model girlfriend seems quite calm from the outside looking in. In fact, for some, the two have set the standard for people trying to make a difficult and professionally busy relationship work. So no, it’s not Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet that comes to mind. When we think about a chaotic relationship in Verstappen’s life, we think of Gianpiero Lambiase (GP).

Verstappen and Lambiase have the most interesting and hilarious driver-engineer dynamic on the grid. This relationship is often on display during their radio conversation and baffles the entire world of F1. Now, thanks to a De Telegraaf Dutch journalist, we have some understanding of this unique relationship.

The British-Italian race engineer has been on Verstappen’s side since day one. Lambiase has seen Verstappen grow up and grow from a rookie to a world champion. This lengthy relationship between the two has made them quite frank with each other, so much so that GP sometimes even asks Verstappen to shut up.

When asked on The Race F1 podcast if this is a byproduct of Verstappen’s homeland and the Dutch culture, native journalist Erik van Haren made a revelation and gave his two cents.

The Dutch journalist said, “No, we can be very direct. But of course, you can be very direct if you have such a good relationship between those two. If you see them laughing after a race or after a session you know okay they can be quite tense. GP is not a guy, he can receive well but Max has to receive sometimes as well, sometimes he (GP) gives him back as well. I think that’s healthy as well not only coming from the driver.”

Max Verstappen had a similar idea during his interview with David Coulthard. In fact, Verstappen casually blurted a million-dollar marketing idea for Red Bull with his suggestion. The suggestion? Make a recap of all his radio conversations with GP.

He said, “I think I definitely need to try and speak to marketing. They have to put a compilation together at the end of the year with all our radio messages throughout the year.”
