Max Verstappen won the 2023 Dutch GP under treacherous conditions. Some might even say that it was a wonder that Red Bull and Max Verstappen made all the right calls as there were so many variables during the race. As Verstappen secured his home race win and equaled the former Red Bull driver’s record, he also fired an insult toward Lewis Hamilton. What did the Dutchman say?

The Dutch GP win was Max Verstappen’s 9th consecutive win this season. The 25-year-old equaled Sebastian Vettel’s record of consecutive wins by winning his 3rd Dutch GP. Nonetheless, as the race unfolded lap by lap, something or another came up. Rain, transitions to dry, rain again, safety car, and red flag, Verstappen managed everything brilliantly. It was as if the cosmos was throwing everything at Verstappen just to see if he was worthy of equaling Vettel’s record. And yes, he is. 

As Verstappen was giving a debrief about his race, he decided to fire shots in Lewis Hamilton’s direction by explaining how some even more dominant cars in F1 weren’t able to achieve what Red Bull is at the moment. Red Bull set the record for most consecutive wins as a team in a season earlier this season, and have won every single race. Everything has just been on point for the Milton Keynes stable.

According to formulapassion.it, Max Verstappen said, “Winning such a complicated Grand Prix always gives great satisfaction, even if you have the best car, and I think that in the past we have seen even more dominant cars in F1 that have not obtained the results we are obtaining, it is difficult to put together successful strands like ours. With only 9 races to go, Red Bull might as well be able to set the record of winning every single race in an F1 season. Despite the flawless performance, it wasn’t a cakewalk for Verstappen.

Regardless of the fact that Red Bull made all the right calls for the Dutchman, he still had to navigate his way through consistently changing conditions. Even the best drivers in the world can easily get caught in such conditions. Verstappen explained how the initial laps on slicks when rain was coming down were amongst the most stressful moments and the restart after the red flag as well. 

According to FIA.com, Max Verstappen when asked about the most stressful moment of the race said, “Yeah, I think the first laps on the slicks were quite stressful. You don’t want to immediately go off the track. And also knowing how much grip there is still out there on the tires, with the amount of water coming down, was not easy. And of course the final restart, you know, with seven laps ago, six laps to go or whatever.”
