Remember how Lewis Hamilton’s former rival Fernando Alonso saw the opportunity in the changing conditions at Zandvoort and grabbed a podium in the Aston Martin? The car wasn’t at its best but Alonso’s hunger even at 42 made sure he got the maximum out of the car. The same cannot be said about Lewis Hamilton. The 7X Champ’s elusive dream to beat Max Verstappen was destroyed by F1 legend as he exposed Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ flaws. What did the legend expose?

Many F1 pundits explain how Lewis Hamilton steps up and takes his game to a whole different level when he sniffs a chance at a win or a championship. We saw it at the Hungarian GP where the Briton, against all odds took the pole position. However, ever since the 2021 defeat, Hamilton doesn’t seem to be the same driver. Part of it is because of Mercedes’ inability to provide a competitive car.

F1 legend Jackie Stewart highlighted these flaws as he explained how Nico Rosberg had the unconditional will to beat Lewis Hamilton and take the world championship home. Explaining how Hamilton has lost the hunger, Jackie Stewart told Bild.de, “Lewis no longer has that hunger. Because of that – and because the car is no longer quite as powerful – he has serious problems” [translated via Google]

Not only Hamilton but Stewart also highlighted Mercedes’ power struggle and inability to compete with Red Bull. Keeping the Red Bull dominance aside, the Mercedes is nowhere near what the Milton Keynes outfit is churning out in terms of results and performance. Despite the dream to beat Max Verstappen destroyed by Stewart, Lewis Hamilton is determined to achieve his 8th title and came out with a firing statement.

During Thursday’s press conference at the Italian GP, Lewis Hamilton said, “Honestly, I couldn’t be happier to be extending with this team. Mercedes have supported me since I was 13 years old, so such a long trip, and we still have unfinished business. We are in this together. We have a lot of work to do to get ourselves back to the front, but there is no place I would rather be.”
