Ever since the start of the 2023 season, Sergio Perez has been losing his rapport in the Red Bull camp. How did the Mexican driver land in this place after helping the team to their first constructor’s championship in a decade? He did so by openly challenging the team’s favorite driver, Max Verstappen for the 2023 championship. However, ever since the race in Baku, Perez has failed to even challenge Verstappen. His back-to-back botched qualifying became a huge cause for concern and even put his future in jeopardy. This scenario earned him a lot of criticism, some uncalled for, especially from Dr. Helmut Marko. However, at the coming Singapore GP, a street race, will Perez shut down Marko with the “Mexican way”?

Red Bull’s Austrian executive made an insensitive comment about Perez ahead of the Singapore GP. “Let’s remember that he is South American and so his head is not as focused as Max Verstappen or as Sebastian Vettel was,” said Marko. This statement caused an uproar among the fans who wanted to see the RBR advisor resign.

However, with a resignation highly unlikely, the fans will have to make do with a reply from Perez with his performance on the Marina Bay circuit. In fact, the statement from his 2022 triumph, as seen in the Singapore GP race highlights on YouTube, will fit perfectly today.

Perez said, “This is how we do it man, we shut our mouths and we work hard. We do it the Mexican way. Good job guys!” With Checo’s form on the decline ever since the Miami GP, it seems difficult for him to repeat his heroics from 12 months ago in Singapore.

It will be as close to poetic justice as we will come all season if this scenario comes to fold. After all, Helmut also wants Sergio to pick up his form back for Red Bull’s betterment. To make amends, the usually nonchalant Dr. Marko did give justification for his comments.

In today’s day and age, no one can get away with cultural appropriation and insensitive remarks about someone’s place of origin. So after the Austrian’s comments about Perez, the entire social media came together to shame the Red Bull executive. This is exactly why Marko set out to set the record straight with his explanation.

It wasn’t meant that way,” said Marko as he gave his explanation. “I meant that a Mexican has a different mentality than a German or a Dutchman. But who knows, maybe it’s [the mentality] controlled.”
