Red Bull suffered a huge blow last weekend when their engine suppliers, Honda, announced their exit from Formula 1 by the end of 2021. Christian Horner believes that it is not an easy task to integrate a chassis with a new Power Unit supplier. He also revealed that the team’s focus is now entirely on developing the Chassis.
While speaking to Red Bull, Horner spoke about finding a new Engine supplier. “I would be lying if I said it is an easy task for a team to integrate a new power unit and ensure that the communication is there straight away, but the initial work with Toro Rosso helped.”

He continued, “And as a team, we are adaptable and pride ourselves in the depth of knowledge and experience we have to drive success. Now the situation is clear and we have time, which we are grateful to Honda for. We must find a competitive power unit solution for 2022 and beyond.”
Red Bull and their sister team, AlphaTauri, do not seem to be panicking at the moment. Honda assured both the teams of a power unit for the 2021 season. The Japanese manufacturer also added that the company would like to assist their customers if teams are left without a new engine supplier for the 2022 season.

Our Focus is on the Chassis, says the Red Bull Team Principal
Christian Horner revealed that Red Bull had begun the development of their new chassis. He said, “The time we now have will enable us to evaluate all options and possibilities.”
“We have won races in the hybrid era with two different power units. So our focus is very much on the chassis and it terms of what that delivers, and whatever power unit we use- we deliver with.”
Horner is confident that the team will continue their decent run in the sport, even with a new power unit supplier. “We have seen all the power units converging over the last 12 months and so the landscape is changing as everyone becomes more competitive.”
Red Bull has done a reasonable job over the course of the 2020 F1 season. With Ferrari falling in a slump, Red Bull has used it well to their advantage and is clinging onto P2 on the constructors’ table.
