It is odd to see such a big gap between Red Bull and Mercedes this season. The German team has been really struggling with the new 2022 cars and could not extract the most out of it in the first 2 races.

Their main area of struggle is the porpoising issue on the straights. But Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko believes that if Mercedes can sort out the porpoising issue, they will be back in the championship fight.

Currently, Red Bull and Ferrari are a couple of steps ahead of Mercedes in the 2022 season. Both teams are currently fighting for the championship after 2 races while Mercedes are languishing behind.

Red Bull advisor reveals how Mercedes can bounce back in 2022

The German team has dominated the sport since the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era in 2014. They had nailed the engine regulations before the beginning of the 2014 season and dominating the sport since then.

But according to Marko, the new regulations were more on the chassis side, which Red Bull nailed before the season. But the Austrian is convinced that Mercedes can bounce back anytime if they resolve the issue this season.

” Now, with the change of chassis and engine, the differences are not so big. Mercedes can no longer click and suddenly it’s a party for them. But the team are very well positioned and also have some really important people in the chassis area,” said Marko.

“I’m completely convinced they will come back if they control the ‘porpoising’. And Lewis Hamilton is nine points behind [Max] Verstappen, so that’s nothing either. I don’t think it’s the end [of an era], but maybe we’ll have a battle on the same level,” said Red Bull’s advisor.

It would be foolish to count out the 8-time constructor world champions this season. But it looks like the German team would struggle to compete against Red Bull until the European leg of the season.

Hopefully, Mercedes can sort out their issues soon so that they can join Red Bull and Ferrari in the championship fight. But before that Red Bull would like to extract as many points as possible so that they have a buffer from the German team.
