Renault have been extremely impressive over the course of this season, especially in the last few races. The French team have shown improvement throughout the season and Daniel Ricciardo’s podium finish in Germany was a testament to their progress.

Having scored 36 points in the first 6 races, they bounced back in spectacular fashion. picking up 78 in the next 5 races. The Enstone-based outfit have one of the best packages at the moment and their car seems well suited to all kinds of circuits.
This fact was acknowledged by the team’s Sporting Director, Alan Permane. He said, “I don’t think we’re scared of anywhere, honestly. I think if you look at since Spa, since this last sequence of races, we scored very well at all of those.

“Someones said to me before we got here, we were only second to Mercedes, in terms of point-scoring in these last four or five races. So definitely the momentum is with us. What we’ve got now is consistency in the car and pace at all circuits.”
With a total of 114 points in 11 races, they remain well and truly in the race to end the season as ‘the best of the rest.’
Had it not been for Ocon’s unfortunate DNF at the Nurburgring, they could very well have been in third place on the Constructors’ Championship standings. Instead, they remain fifth, merely 2 points behind McLaren, and 4 behind Racing Point.
Renault F1’s sporting director talks about the races to come and his team’s chances
Looking at the Grands Prix to come, Permane said, “I don’t see anything on those tracks that looks particularly scary.”
He added, “Portimao, again, is a high downforce track, similar levels to here (Nurburgring). It looks like Imola will be a little bit lower, which may well suit us even more. I think that’s the reason it suited us here and there’s no reason it won’t suit us again in Imola.”
With no F1 action this coming weekend, Renault F1’s focus will be on the next race. The Portuguese Grand Prix, on the 25th of October. Their aim? To leapfrog their midfield rivals and close the gap to Red Bull.
