After what was a redemption race in Austria for Sergio Perez, the Weekend at Silverstone was a great place to build momentum on. The Mexican had previously failed to qualify for the Q3 4 times in a row. The pace looked good for Perez coming into the British GP qualifying having finished in the Top 5 in both the session on Friday.

However, disaster struck once again for Checo who got out in Q1 at Silverstone. After the first lap on a drying track, Kevin Magnussen had a failure which left him stranded on a track. With just over 3 minutes left on the clock, everyone went out for a one-lap shootout. Checo was sitting on the pitlane exit for well over 5 minutes and was the first one on a fast-evolving track. He crossed the line first and set the fastest lap. However, everyone behind him improved exponentially and Checo only managed P16.
