Red Bull Racing announced the long-awaited decision of Max Verstappen’s teammate for 2021. A deserving candidate in Sergio Perez will take up the responsibility of fulfilling those expectations next season.
The Austrian outfit had always indicated that it would make the decision only after the 2020 F1 season. After considering the pros and cons, they have now brought in ‘Checo’ to provide able enforcement to Max in the races.
Speaking on the same, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner stated, “Alex is a valued member of the team and we thought long and hard about this decision.”

Red Bull feel Perez is the ‘right driver’ to partner with Verstappen
“Having taken our time to evaluate all the relevant data and performances we have decided that Sergio is the right driver to partner Max for 2021 and look forward to welcoming him to Red Bull Racing,” concluded Horner.

With most seats filled up on the F1 grid, three candidates vied for the second seat at Red Bull. But no fan would say that the choice to pick Perez over Hulkenberg and Albon was incorrect from a racing perspective.

Sergio Perez enjoyed a career-best season in 2020
Going into the 2020 season, the frontrunners for the top-3 places were fixed with Hamilton, Bottas, and Verstappen. But the race for P4 in the drivers’ standings was always going to interest F1 fans.

Perez drove mightily and, more importantly, with consistency in the 15 races he ran in. Securing a P4 despite missing out on two races is a truly outstanding achievement.

Red Bull fans can now relish the prospect of seeing a talented F1 driver take to the wheel of the RB17 car next year. Needless to say, they will hope Perez adds on to the brilliant Sakhir GP win from this season.
