For Pierre Gasly, nothing has changed thus far in this Formula 1 season. The man who displayed class in a sluggish AlphaTauri and wanted to leave the Red Bull team for some new adventures has quickly learned that driving the Alpine A523 is out of his comfort zone, and instead of competing for points, the Frenchman is still trailing in the driver’s championship. And now, a former Renault Director has exposed the Alpine’s flaws, showing how the uncomfortable vehicle has put Gasly in a bad frame of mind.

Since the team’s initial goal of winning 100 races failed to materialize, key individuals, including Laurent Rossi, Otmar Szafnauer, and sporting director Alan Permane were forced to leave. Now, more crucially, Bruno Famin will serve as the team’s temporary leader. However, the stakeholders took this action in response to the team’s failure to provide their drivers with a competent vehicle and bring the team back to fighting for the points.

Nevertheless, the single-seater hasn’t given its drivers a happy time apart from frequently featuring in the top 10. As previously stated by Pierre Gasly, the A523 was less at ease after the Spa Francorchamps than when he first joined the squad at the start of the season. The reason for this discomfort may be due to the Pirelli’s combination with the flooring and rear wings, which constantly receive alterations and updates.

An ex-Renault director has now exposed the team’s contradictions and criticized it for failing to provide a genuine car that could contend at the front, highlighting how awful it can be for the driver to compete in a car with no desire. As per NextgenAuto, Denis Chevrier, former Renault F1 engine director said, “How do you get confidence in a car that doesn’t inspire it? When the car is not performing or difficult to adjust, inconsistent, there is nothing worse for a driver. It’s terrible.”

The Alpine are now in sixth place with only 57 points and are 46 points behind their rivals, McLaren. Additionally, the Frenchman has merely contributed 26 points to his credit. This has been a big issue for Gasly and now in light of that, the Frenchman seems to have blasted the Enstone outfit.

What did Pierre Gasly say about the handling of the A523?

For any F1 driver, the importance of the car’s performance remains paramount. But not to forget the vehicle’s balance also plays a significant part in the overall results of the driver’s performance. For instance, if we look at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton seemed to have gotten a better handle on the W-14 this year. However, George Russell preferred the W-13 last year since it suited him well. Nevertheless, a driver who is making his maiden foray outside of Red Bull’s sphere of influence expected much more from his new squad, Alpine. However, the 27-year-old looks to be experiencing pain from the single-seater due to the continual change.

In his own words, Pierre Gasly has provided a summary of the vehicle and stated that the development and tire changes have caused him difficulty. He said, “We’re constantly trying to find the balance I like with this A523. You can even say it, it was a bit better at the beginning of the year, compared to the recent races, so we have to determine if it’s related to the evolutions, the tracks or the tires that have changed. There’s work to be done, and I think the overall potential isn’t quite being tapped compared to our competitors because I’m less comfortable.”
