7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton signed a new two-year deal with Mercedes. The deal ensures Hamilton will stay with the German team till the end of the 2023 season. I’ll have a Mercedes engine in the back of me next year, no matter what: Russell

As reported by Sky Sports, George Russell impressed everyone with his one-off performance in a Mercedes at Sakhir Grand Prix. Now he is eager to challenge at the front of the grid and fight with the best drivers in Formula One.

“I’ve said it before, I want to be fighting for victories and world championships,” said Russell on his desire to race at the front.

I’ve worked so hard to get to Formula 1 and I didn’t work that hard just to be fighting for P15. I’m here to win and I want to win and that’s what I want to do sooner rather than later.

“How long will I wait for Mercedes? I’m in constant communication with them. They’ve looked after me and they’re in control of my destiny, wherever that may be. They’ve always said, if you do the job, you’ll be rewarded. Simple as that,” said the Williams driver.

George Russell is etching closer to that elusive point with Williams

George Russell was able to put his Williams in P8 on merit and on choice tires at the Austrian Grand Prix. He was running in the points until lap 69 of 71. But eventually, he got overtaken by Alpine‘s Fernando Alonso. The results may have been heartbreaking, but everyone in the paddock lauded his performance.

The drive also made a strong case for his promotion to Mercedes. But George is confident that no matter what happens, he will have a Mercedes engine behind him at the back of his car next season.

I’ll have a Mercedes engine in the back of me next year, no matter what. I’m a Mercedes driver and I’m loyal to Mercedes,” said Russell.
