11 races into what can be termed as a more promising season for Williams, the Grove-based outfit are yet to score points. However, young talent George Russell has definitely impressed and has consistently shown fans that he is destined for greater success.

The Briton has come agonizingly close to scoring his first F1 points on a number of occasions, only to fall short by a hair’s length. The same was the case at the Eifel Grand Prix.

Russell himself said that a spot in the Top-10 was in sight owing to an early overtake on Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. But his dreams were crushed soon enough, Vettel used the DRS to get ahead of him before Kimi Raikkonen sent him airborne.

Russell narrated the series of events that unfolded as a points finish was cruelly snatched away from him.

He said, “It was obviously frustrating. I actually overtook Sebastian Vettel in the chicane before. But then he got the run on me in on the exit – which I don’t think was shown on TV – which allowed him to have the DRS.

“And obviously Kimi was behind, I was on the outside. I left plenty of space but I think Kimi just locked up behind Sebastian and then lost the rear.”

The collision with Raikkonen saw Russell take a trip down to the paddocks, enduringly.

Despite the painful end to his race in Nurburg, the 22-year-old said that he didn’t hold any hard feelings against the Finn.

Russell said, “I think in an F1 car, especially when you’re following it’s so easy to have a small lock-up. And that obviously was the reason as to why he locked up, went wide, oversteered, and went into me.

“So no hard feelings, it’s racing. But it’s obviously frustrating from my side.”

For all his impressive antics in qualifying, Russell would be itching to get his first F1 point soon. One can certainly sympathize with him considering the fact that his rivals (apart from teammate Nicholas Latifi) have all got a point to their name.

Can Russell finally score his first F1 point at the next race in Portimao on the 25th of October? Can he bring some joy to the Williams F1 team? Or will he end the season scoreless yet again? We’ll find out soon enough.
