It was yet another disappointing qualifying session for Scuderia Ferrari (where’s the surprise in that). Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel got knocked out in Q2 and will be starting the race in P11 and P15, respectively. However, Leclerc, who only missed the cut for Q3 by 0.043 seconds, thinks that his team is to blame for his Q2 exit.

Leclerc said that he wasn’t given the right information by his team pertaining to the gap he had ahead of Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman was not far behind Leclerc on his final lap and ended up pipping the Monegasque into Q3.

Leclerc said, “They told me I had Ocon behind me, about one or two seconds from me. Instead, I think it was further back.

“I think I had more margin. Now I am angry (as) everything is still fresh. (But) I have to calm down. The race is tomorrow, the race is where they will award points.

“But for me, it’s a difficult weekend. In practice I hadn’t driven well, then I started to find the rhythm in qualifying. But I was not able to show the potential of the car, and I’m sorry.”

The German suffering a horrendous season this year, had a big shunt in Q2. Vettel’s crash brought out the red flag and led to some drama in Q2.

Leclerc himself was lucky enough to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Although he did run into Vettel’s broken rear wing on the track. Speaking about Vettel’s incident, Leclerc said, “It was quite scary, but hopefully he’s fine and it was not much worse than that.

“Now it’s more the disappointment of not going to Q3.”

Leclerc seems the likelier of the two Ferrari’s to end the race with some points. But nothing comes as a guarantee.

Starting outside the Top 10, it’ll be interesting to see where the Ferrari duo ends up by the end of the race. Will they be able to salvage some points in Sochi? Or will it be yet another debacle (something we have gotten used to)?
