Almost a year in the making, Sir Lewis Hamilton is an honorary Brazilian citizen now. The Brit accepted the citizenship in an official ceremony in Brasilia ahead of the Brazilian GP. An honor that was in the making after Hamilton’s heroics in Interlagos in 2021 is finally bestowed upon him.

After Hamilton won the Brazilian hearts in 2021, congressman Andre Figueiredo suggested the citizenship proposition. Around the 2022, Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the proposition was accepted. Now, Hamilton of a citizen of a country whose world champion inspired him when he was young.
Hamilton, in his acceptance speech, even credited his love for Brazil to Ayrton Senna. “I feel like now I’m one of you,” said Hamilton in a packed session of Congress.

During the ceremony, congressmen also highlighted Hamilton’s activism and defense of minority groups. However, during the speech, Hamilton’s best friend also got a mention from the congressional representative. His best friend? Roscoe, of course!
Hamilton’s famous Bulldog also got an honorary mention from the deputy in Brazil’s lower house of Congress. All those trips to the track with Hamilton have made Roscoe quite a personality.

The fact Hamilton’s beloved dog got a mention during the ceremony has spilled some beans on Twitter. The fans are amused with Roscoe’s popularity. It’s clearly massive, as even congressional representatives know of him and are mentioning him during important ceremonies.
