In Formula 1, it isn’t as easy to create a legacy as it is to destroy one. We’ve seen many great drivers in this sport, but as their glory starts to wane, so does their reputation. Only a handful will go down as legends, irrespective of how their career was shaped in the latter stages. Max Verstappen for example, is lighting the streets of F1 ablaze, but when the dust settles on his racing career, will he go down as one of the greatest?

It won’t be unfair to say that Verstappen is going through a phase most champions have in this sport; domination. Granted, his seems to be the most accentuated of the lot. But will the Dutch racing ace also face the torrid end so many have seen?

Max Verstappen expects a bleak F1 future

Currently, Verstappen seems impenetrable. However, he is as much of a human as we all are. Hence, deep down he does have his own concerns and insecurities. Through the passage of time, though, the 2x champion has learned to deal with it as a matter of fact. It also helps that he is going to leave a lasting impression on this sport with his current trajectory.

When asked about his anxieties in a feature for The Sunday Times, he revealed he had none. However, “Initially, when I got into Formula One what worried me was: will I get a car that allows me to show what I can do out there? Luckily I got into that position.”

When asked, “Say it all goes to sh*t now?” He bluntly replied, “Whatever — I’ve already done everything I want to do in Formula One.”

Accepting the possibility of a waning in fortunes is one thing, but does Verstappen want to go through it all? The answer to this may leave Christian Horner & Co. at Red Bull in a bit of a mess.

Verstappen’s timeline for motorsport glory

The kind of driver Verstappen has shown himself to be has left no doubt about him being capable of conquering multiple racing categories. But the 25-year-old doesn’t want to do it just for the sake of it. Hence, he has it all pre-planned.

The Mirror quoted him as saying, “I love doing Le Mans, I love doing other 24-hour races, I love watching the GT3 cars go around the Nordschleife. All these kind of things I want to experience in my life and I don’t want to be doing them when I’m 40 or 50 because then I’m not at the peak of my performance. When I’m 31, I’m pretty sure I’m still capable of doing great things.”
