Schumacher Dismisses Ferrari F1 Threat Against Frontrunners Mercedes and Red Bull

We are just a few hours away from the start of the 2022 season. This year, we have new regulations and new cars for the teams to master on the grid. Through the Pre Season tests, we have already gotten an idea of what the pecking order would look like in the 2022 season, and they were a few surprises. Ferrari looked the most competitive package in the testing runs and is one of the favorites for the season.

But former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher mentioned he does not think that the Italian team will challenge for the title this season. According to him, the challenge presented by Ferrari will fade away as the season progresses throughout the year.

This statement is a bit of a shock for everyone, as many have put the prancing horses to compete for race wins and podiums regularly throughout the season, after seeing their performance in preseason testing.

Former F1 driver not confident with Ferrari being touted as Title Contenders

As reported by Formula Passion, the German driver mentioned that even if the Italian team is ahead at the start of the season, other teams will catch up to them. Schumacher also revealed that the championship battle will still be between Red Bull and Mercedes. The German expressed, “I think they have definitely taken a step forward, but will it be enough for the top? I’m not so sure, especially because Ferrari tends to reach the limit of performance before other teams.”

“We saw this often in Friday’s practice sessions last year. I really wish Ferrari were in the front because this is important for Formula 1 all over the world,” added Ralf.

Ferrari had one of the best, if not the best, cars on the track in the official pre-season testing in Bahrain. They look consistent, reliable, and fast each time their drivers went out on track.
