A little over a week ago it was announced that Sebastian Vettel had agreed to a brand ambassador deal with Aston Martin F1 sponsor BWT. As part of the deal, Vettel also had to support its campaign against plastic bottles. And as such, the four-time world champion had unveiled a new helmet design with the famous color that BWT is usually associated with, i.e. Pink.
Today, the German driver further clarified the switch in his helmet color.
Those who have been following Vettel for a while know that he usually sports some of the best helmet designs on the grid. The trick is that he keeps things simple and classy, usually opting for pristine white as the main color along with colors of the German flag on it. But this season will clearly be a departure from the normal for the Aston Martin man.

The German driver added, “I think Formula 1 is pushing very hard to get rid of plastics in the paddock. I’ve been doing my best the last couple of years, so I think there’s just solutions out there and companies such as BWT delivering those type of solutions, and we all should thrive and have to thrive for a better world and better future.
“I think the main thing is to create an awareness. It’s a small thing, to paint your helmet in a different color, but it reaches quite a lot of people, so I’m happy to hear that you noticed.”

However, Vettel has already shown he can adapt with his helmet designs. The helmet which he unveiled a week ago was different from the one in testing. During the tests, the helmet did indeed have the colors of the German flag on it. There was also the characteristic white meshed in. So, it looks as though he has found the perfect balance.
But things haven’t started on the best note on track for Vettel and his new team. They faced problems in pre-season testing that limited the mileage they put in, and F1 presenter Will Buxton reckons they could be in serious trouble.
