“Du Bist Weltmeister!” which translates to “You are a world champion” are the words that echo within the confines of every F1-obsessed brain. It is what Sebastian Vettel’s race engineer said on the radio when the German won his first title at the 2010 Abu Dhabi GP. Now, on the eve of the 4x Champion’s last Formula 1 Grand Prix, his father has paid homage to the very beginning of Vettel’s journey in motorsports.

Sebastian Vettel has always been very open and acknowledging of his father and how his support and nurturing shaped his racing career. On the eve of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Will Buxton took to Twitter to share a very heartwarming gesture Vettel’s father did for his son’s last-ever F1 race.

Buxton wrote, “Norbert Vettel has surprised Seb by bringing his very first race suit to his final GP. Really emotional moment between the two in the garage just now as Seb saw it hanging up.”

Sebastian Vettel declares this F1 driver as the favorite teammate he’s ever had

Vettel‘s relationship with his father is undoubtedly exceptional. That being said, in Formula 1, you spend almost the entirety of the regular season with your teammate. Vettel has had a catalog of world-class drivers who’ve driven alongside him in equal machinery. But Vettel only rates this one man as his favorite teammate.

“I think with him, I probably had the best relationship out of all the teammates I had,” said the 4x World Champion about Kimi Raikkonen.

He then went on to explain himself. “There was never a question that anything could sort of shake-up or destabilise the, I don’t want to say bond, but the relationship that we had.”

“He’s probably also the one when I came in, I remember, he was so respectful from the day I walked in, looking into my eyes.”

Vettel will race in his last Formula 1 Grand Prix this Sunday at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. That being said, since his retirement announcement, he’s had several stellar races with a plethora of wheel-to-wheel action.
