The life of a Formula 1 driver is full of glitz, glamor, and glory. The drivers are often put on pedestals and showered in champagne after each race win. However, it’s not the driver alone responsible for a race win. There is a whole host of people involved in getting a hard-fought race win who hardly sees the limelight. Today we want to discuss such a person responsible for a Sebastian Vettel race win and the intimidating encounter she had with the German before the race even began.

The now-retired four-time world champion moved to Ferrari in 2015 after his successful stint with Red Bull. Before the ex-boss labeled Vettel’s time at Ferrari as a failure, the German came to Ferrari with high hopes of looking to win races. However, his first-ever Ferrari win came with extraordinary circumstances.

In his first year with the Scuderia, the team was going through an overhaul, much like the present-day scenario. Because of the shuffling, Ferrari was without a head of the strategy. Stepping in from Maranello, Ruth Buscombe revealed she got the responsibility of the 2015 Malaysian GP in the Beyond the Grid podcast.

Buscombe got the one-off job of making strategies for Malaysia and endured a lot of questions from the bosses. The intense affair also included Vettel.

“Even Seb (Sebastian Vettel) questioned it. He was like ‘Are you sure?’ and I was like ‘Yes I am,” she said.

Buscombe’s confidence earned Ferrari a win and Vettel a day to remember as his first-ever race win in the red overalls. However, we all know life at Ferrari did not pan out according to Vettel’s plan.

Although the German has no regrets and is happy with his time at Ferrari.

Initially, as anyone would, the German felt disappointed with his time at the Maranello outfit. Vettel wanted to add to his championship titles, but hardly ever came close to repeating the Red Bull heroics. Regardless, after a little time, Vettel felt at peace with his time at Ferrari.

The German revealed that in a conversation on a different episode of Beyond the Grid podcast. He said, “I paid the emotional price in my 5 years at Ferrari. I felt pressured not from being a Ferrari driver but from my expectations for myself. I am still very happy and at peace with what we have accomplished. But of course, looking back, it took some time to recover.”
