F1 legend Sebastian Vettel believes the sport is not fast enough in its approach to tackling climate change. Vettel is not a man who is active on social media but he surely attempts to deliver changes on the ground. Fans often see him helping the cleaning crew at the end of the Grand Prix weekends.

Vettel has strong opinions on climate change and never hesitates to call a spade a spade. F1 is going through a revolutionary phase. The 2022 season will witness a major overhaul in the rules and regulations which aim to make the sport cost-effective and take a stride toward a carbon-neutral future.

Though Vettel is excited about the 2022 campaign with Aston Martin, he aims to achieve a bigger goal as well. While many believe that Vettel’s best racing days are behind him now, his experience still makes him one of the most lethal drivers on the grid.

Sebastian Vettel not happy with F1’s approach towards climate change

More recently, he took the wheel of the AMR22 to take a spin around the Silverstone track, a surreal sight for F1 enthusiasts. However, addressing the bigger matter at hand, he expressed disappointment with F1’s contribution to climate change. In an interview, he said the problems need to be addressed right away.

“Until the end of 2025, we will be driving with the current engines, which are too complicated to be a model for series development. We are therefore initially only increasing the share of sustainable fuels to 10 percent,” said Vettel.

“None of this is happening fast enough for me. You have to tackle the problems now and find solutions. Formula 1 would have so many opportunities to point the way to the future of mobility. But the different interests stand in each other’s way.”
