After the likes of Mercedes and Renault, Ferrari will be the latest team to hit the track. Ferrari’s social media accounts announced yesterday that the Maranello-based outfit will be testing on the 23rd of June at Mugello. Like all other teams that are and will be testing, Ferrari will also be using their 2018 spec SF71H. The regulations don’t permit the use of the latest car unless it’s a ‘filming day.’ The first man to get behind the steering wheel of the Prancing Horse will be Sebastian Vettel.

Sebastian Vettel is set to inaugurate Ferrari testing ahead of Austria

The 4-time world champion gets the first crack at testing the Ferrari SF71H at Mugello. This will be the first time Vettel gets on board a Ferrari after they parted ways a month or so ago. This year Ferrari aren’t going to be testing at their usual Fiorano circuit. That’s because of reports suggesting that Mugello may be considered as a venue later on, so Ferrari are taking the opportunity to get better versed with the track.

The testing period will help both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc to shake off the pre-season rust. It’ll also help them to put in some laps under their belt before the season kicks-off in Austria in less than two weeks. It’ll also help the Ferrari crew to practice all the new safety regulations in light of the coronavirus threat.

The SF71H is also the car in which Sebastian Vettel recorded the most points in a season for Ferrari. So he’ll only be too happy to reunite with it before he sits behind the wheel of the SF1000 soon. As for the SF1000, Vettel’s teammate, Leclerc got a chance to take it for a spin last Thursday. Soon both the drivers will be driving the SF1000 together, once the season commences. They’ll be looking to push Mercedes and Red Bull for the championship this year and will be looking to break the Silver Arrows dominance is F1.
