Sebastian Vettel made a switch from Ferrari to Aston Martin in 2021. Failing to see any progression, the German driver retired from the sport at the end of the 2022 season. However, with the arrival of Fernando Alonso, the team believes they won’t miss Sebastian. Could this be because Fernando Alonso is currently the most experienced driver on the Formula 1 grid?

After Vettel’s departure, a driver like Alonso is exactly what Aston Martin needs to help them develop next year’s car. Moreover, Lance Stroll is going through a rough patch lately and could benefit from his presence on the team.

Talking with select media including GPFans, the team’s technical director Dan Fallows said, “It is important to the team that from a technical perspective we have drivers who are able to give good feedback.”

“That is very important for us. We are very fortunate in that Lance [Stroll] is very good in that respect as well,” he added. “I don’t think by Seb [Vettel] leaving that we are missing anything particularly.”

“As I say, in Lance we have a driver who is able to drive the car, and clearly Fernando [Alonso] has a huge amount of experience and has a proven track record of doing that as well.”

Lawrence Stroll had made a commitment to be able to compete for race wins in 5 years. Aston Martin have completed 2 of those years. Their commitment to excel is, however, right on track. The signing of Fernando Alonso and former Red Bull chief of aerodynamics, Dan Fallows is a step in that direction.

Another big step is the under-construction state-of-the-art factory in Silverstone which will have an in-house wind tunnel.

“We’ve got a hugely ambitious group of people and one of the things about seeing the new factory come together is it demonstrates this momentum, this wish to accelerate the process of moving up the grid and starting to get into a winning situation.”
