A knighthood, a net worth of $285 million, and a record so great there are serious doubts it will ever be eclipsed. All this but Lewis Hamilton believes there’s much more to life. His recent adventures show that side of him.

Lewis has been on a journey to Africa, the land of his ancestors, to learn more about his heritage and understand the ancestry behind the Hamilton name. And the trip has been special for him.

He said, “It was one of, if not the most, special experience for me. Just to tap into a little bit of Africa and experience a few different countries. I didn’t go to the wealthy parts. I know there’s a lot of wealth and great buildings and businesses, but I really wanted to get to the rarest and rawest part of countries, and see how people live with very little.”

“That for me was really empowering, just to think that my ancestors would have been in one of those tribes, and it’s beautiful. We live in such a bubble he reflects. “There’s so much happening around the world and so many people are struggling with so much. It’s sad to see if you really sit and watch the news because it feels like it’s worse than ever,” said Hamilton reflecting on the trip.

“That experience of going to Africa, seeing people with so little – I say so little but they also have everything, they’re so happy – but just seeing a different way of living. We accumulate too much stuff, we eat too much food, the things that we take for granted, people don’t have that luxury and I think it’s really great to have that experience to put things into perspective,” Lewis said.

This season continues to prove a headache for him. But it is heartening to see the journey he has set upon, and more than that, the happiness that it is bringing to him.

Brundle, writing for Sky Sports, said: “When I was out on track during practice it was clear that despite lapping quickly the two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were working harder at the wheel, not least compared to the relative magic-carpet ride of the Ferrari.“

“Lewis has had a bit of bother in combat in more recent races which is likely indicative of a difficult car. They’ll be pleased to see the back of this one,” he added.

Lewis blamed the lock-up at Turn 7 for his disappointing P9 finish. Prior to the incident, he was fighting for P4. However, he couldn’t make it back up the grid once the lock-up pushed him behind.

Mercedes’ car next season would have to be special to beat the competition they have in the form of Red Bull and Ferrari. The season might as well be finished for the Brackley-based outfit.
