The 2022 season’s sixth race, the Spanish GP, was full of thrilling moments. The race leader, Charles Leclerc, had to return to the pit. Further, Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen went off the track into the gravel. Eventually, Verstappen won the race, but it could have been Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez on the podium’s top spot.

Max Verstappen again ran into issues with his DRS, as he did during qualifying. So, the Milton Keynes base decided to go with a strategy that didn’t need much help from DRS. They pit Max for the soft tire. But while Max was recovering the places, his teammate Sergio Perez overtook Mercedes’s George Russell to take the lead of the race.

Later, Verstappen made another pit stop and got six laps younger tires to Checo. Subsequently, the Austrian constructors asked Perez to give the race lead to Max, who was running on a different strategy and had more pace than Perez.

Checo didn’t like the team’s instructions, but he followed the command as a team player. Checo responded to the team order, “That’s unfair, but okay.”

Fans react to Red Bull F1’s ‘unfair’ order for Perez

Red Bull’s ‘unfair’ instruction for Checo to let Verstappen take the race lead riled up the F1 fans. They started debating whether the instruction was logical or the Red Bull base played favorites with Max Verstappen.

Perez had to trade positions with his teammate Max, but earlier in the race, he asked for a similar command for Max. Even though Red Bull enjoyed the 1-2 finish in Barcelona, the early half of the race looked worrisome for the Austrian F1 team. After Max went out into the gravel and struggled with the DRS, it became hard for him to overtake George Russell ahead.

However, Perez, who was right behind his teammate, had more pace than Verstappen. He even asked Max Verstappen to move out of the way. Sergio Perez was confident that he had more speed and could overtake the Silver Arrow driver. However, it didn’t happen.
