Sergio Perez Makes an Honest Revelation on Red Bull F1 as He Dismisses Max Verstappen ‘Problem’ Theory

At the start of the 2021 season, Red Bull brought in Sergio Perez to partner alongside Max Verstappen. The Mexican driver had a tough time keeping up with the 24-year-old. Checo finished the season in fourth place with 190 points to his name. While Verstappen bagged 395.5 points and his first F1 world title.

It is no surprise that having a teammate like the Red Bull prodigy can be challenging. But Checo sees things in a different light, as having Max as a teammate pushed him to become a better driver.

Both Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon struggled to keep up with the Dutch driver, so did Perez. The points gap between the two Red Bull drivers was 205.5. However, Checo understands the pressure of being on a team such as Red Bull and sees the benefits of having a teammate like Verstappen.

As quoted by GPfans, Perez said, “[It was] very intense. It was extremely intense. A lot of work was done behind the scenes [and there was] a lot of pressure.

“When you are at Red Bull Racing, the pressure is on and everyone is watching you, what you do. [The media] is a lot harder to a Red Bull driver, which is understandable but yeah, it wasn’t easy but it brought me onto another level.

“Having Max as a team-mate, he really pushes you to new levels and makes you really happy. I am enjoying it a lot at this point of my career, I am really happy and that is most important.”

When asked about Verstappen setting the bar to reach in terms of performance, Perez added: “No, I think in general, with the top teams there is a lot more pressure which is understandable. It is part of the game, it is quite normal.”

The Milton-Keynes-based outfit is sticking to their driver lineup for the forthcoming season of Formula One.
