Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will remain teammates at Red Bull until the 2024 season. The Mexican has been challenging the pace of his world champion teammate in 2022 and deserved an extended stay with the team. Checo will be the longest teammate that the Dutch driver has had when his contract expires at the end of 2024.

Perez also revealed that he and Verstappen share a good relationship off the track as well. He mentioned that there are a few things that are common between his and Verstappen’s life that they can talk about.

” We have a good relationship off track. We see each other a lot and we have a good relationship and we can talk about everything. Football, life in general, he has a little girl too, so we communicate a lot,” said Checo.

The little girl Perez is referring to in the interview is the daughter of Max’s girlfriend, Kelly Piquet. Ever since the pair started dating, the Dutch driver treats Piquet’s daughter as his own.

Despite Perez’s positive comments on his relationship with Verstappen as teammates, former world champion Damon Hill believes that there might be some friction between them later in the season.

Ex-world champion expects some friction between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez

Hill on the F1 Nation Podcast mentioned both drivers are fighting for the world championship currently. Their relationship might change later in the season if they continue to be both in contention for the driver’s championship.

But looking at the previous history between Red Bull teammates when they fight each other on the track, this could change the dynamic Verstappen and Perez currently have.

“They [Red Bull] just signed up Sergio [for two more years]. He’s not going anywhere for a bit. I’m quite surprised at some of the things they’ve said. I think that Red Bull can be quite a confusing team when they have two guys who can be in contention, I think they somehow seem to leave one side feeling left out and the other side feeling favored and you get this friction.”

“We had it a lot in the past with Seb [Vettel] and Daniel Ricciardo and with Mark Webber as well. And so watch this space,” said Hill.

It would be interesting to see how the Austrian team manages the situation between both drivers if things get tense later in the season. But whatever decision they take one driver would not be completely happy with it.
