The last couple of weeks have been tough for Racing Point, so Perez’s return would be a big relief to the team. However, despite starting the season with a treble of P6 finishes, his future with the team seems to have been on this ice.

In the last few weeks, the Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin rumors have only intensified. Every elbow bump with Lawrence Stroll and every car ride with Otmar Szafnauer have only served as fuel to the fire. In fact, some reports have even suggested that Vettel’s signing was to be announced at the British Grand Prix but Perez’s run-in with the virus poured water over those plans.

However, among all this, Perez stands his ground. Checo seems very confident of retaining his drive for 2021. He said, “There’s nothing I can do (about the Vettel rumors). What I have heard from the team is that we all want to keep going, to continue. So I believe it’s just a matter of time before those rumors can go away.”

When asked if he had held any talks with other teams amidst the Vettel rumors, Perez said, “No. Not really. Given that my position with the team looks quite secure and it’s the feeling I have been getting. So we are fully on this package and we want to continue as well.”

Certainly not lacking in confidence is old Checo. Good on him. He’ll be itching to get back in the cockpit and carry on from where he left off. Having displayed some impressive pace thus far, a podium or two will surely put those Vettel to Aston Martin rumors to bed.

Despite their improvement this season, Racing Point are yet to register a single podium thus far in 2020. Can Perez change that stat by the end of the weekend? We’ll soon find out.
