The rivalry between the Red Bull duo that erupted during the Brazilian GP last year has again flared up at the Jeddah circuit this season. Team Red Bull put on a fantastic performance last night, finishing 1-2, but this time the king of the streets took home the win and claimed his fifth career triumph. However, the 33-year-old received a warning from the supporters regarding his teammate’s self-centered behavior during the win celebration.

The Saudi curse struck the Dutchman once more as Max Verstappen experienced a driveshaft issue during qualifying, which caused him to start from P15. The manner Verstappen finished at P2 was commendable given his situation. Unfortunately, after stealing the fastest lap honor from teammate Sergio Perez, he was unable to overtake Perez for the victory. As a result, he finished second at the Jeddah circuit.

Just after the race at the Saudi GP, all three podium winners were seated in the cool-down area when Sergio Perez asked the Dutchman about the struggle for the quickest lap. And the way Verstappen handled the whole fastest lap battle was not received well by the fans and some of them tagged Verstappen as ‘selfish’ for that.

While querying Verstappen on the fastest lap battle Perez said, “Am I the fastest lap in the end?” to which Verstappen replied while nodding his head, “on the last lap yeah” Checo further asked the dutchman, ” Were you not told to keep the pace?” to which the double champion finally responded, “Ahh.33.0 yeah. but then I asked what was the fastest lap and I think it was a tenth faster than what were doing”

The fans could sense the heat and hostility between the pair, and soon after, they were discovered warning Perez to be wary of the self-centered Max Verstappen.

Following the fastest-lap duel, F1 fans criticized Max Verstappen in an unpleasant manner

After Verstappen overtook Fernando Alonso for the second place upon bouncing back from a 15th-place, Perez had an advantage of a little over five seconds. In the final laps, Perez had questioned the radio order to keep his lap time constant and wondered if the same order had been given to his pursuing teammate. Verstappen followed up by asking about the fastest lap, to which the team responded that they were “not worried about it”. The Dutch ace quickly responded, “but I am,” and on the last lap, he passed Perez for the fastest lap honor.

Perez and the audience appeared to be irritated by this. A few of the reactions are listed here.

Even on another social networking platform, the fans expressed their dissatisfaction. One of the followers wrote on Instagram, “Okay everyone Max was told not to worry about fastest lap – TEAM ORDERS… but he still went for it in the last lap by himself.” Some other fan commented, “I understand wanting to get points and win but max is an awful team mate. Checo, time to be ruthless!”

While other spectators didn’t like the way Verstappen’s team spirit wrote.

Checo needs to stop being so nice. He should’ve known max would selfishly go for fastest lap and gone for it himself because he probably could’ve got it.”

Max does everything for not helping checo.”

“Such a bad teammate and loser Verstappen is… Checo have to fight alone and stop believing in his team.”

Max only cares about himself. Gives no thought to the team, but the team tolerate it.”
