Max Verstappen has been dating Kelly Piquet since 2020 and since then, he has become a part of her family. Being the daughter of the famous former F1 driver Nelson Piquet, Kelly has had her fair share of the Formula One world. Previously married to Daniil Kvyat, Kelly Piquet has a daughter with the former Red Bull driver.

After Kelly Piquet started dating Max Verstappen, her daughter Penelope Piquet started getting close to the defending champion. Now Penelope and Max are quite close and she even comes down to the tracks for races at times. However, recently Max Verstappen had a DNF at the Australian Grand Prix and little miss Piquet made an appearance at the race. The fact that Verstappen had to retire from the race where Penelope Piquet came to watch, had her mother Kelly worried about her child.

Why Kelly Piquet is concerned about her daughter being at races?

Penelope Piquet is quite fond of Max Verstappen and she often makes a cameo in his simulator streams. Verstappen told Viaplay, that the daughter of Kelly Piquet asked him following the Australian Grand Prix about his DNF. To this, the 3-time champion replied, “Well the car was on fire!” This must have scared the young Piquet as she cared a lot about Verstappen and must have been worried for his safety.

Verstappen explained the reason for his relief saying, “I think Kelly is glad nothing happened today, otherwise she (Penelope) might feel as if she brings bad luck.” Penelope is still very young and since she’s had Max Verstappen around for most of her life, she cares about the world champion. They share a father-daughter-type relationship where she would not want to see any harm come to Verstappen.

Max Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing driver, has disclosed that he shares a good relationship with the daughter of his girlfriend Kelly Piquet, and her ex-boyfriend, former Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat. Verstappen replaced Kvyat at Red Bull in 2016. Later on, he began dating Kelly Piquet, who had a relationship with Kvyat from 2017 to 2019.

Piquet and Kvyat had a daughter together named Penelope just before they separated. Verstappen, who generally keeps his personal life private, spoke to TIME magazine according to GPfans about his content home life, including his bond with four-year-old Penelope.

Speaking about his relationship with Kelly Piquet’s daughter, Verstappen said, “I’m not the father, that’s not the aim.” He further explained, “It’s always very important that she has a good relationship with her own father, which she has.” Now that the couple stays together while Verstappen is not on tour, he interacts with Penelope regularly. He concluded by saying, “But I see her every day when I’m at home. We get on very well. She’s very cute.”
