Shovlin Explains Cullen’s Role in Having Lewis Hamilton ‘Fighting Fit’ for Russian GP

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza was an eventful one as the rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen took another turn. The Dutch driver was doing his best to overtake the Mercedes, but hit the kerb and launched himself on top of the 7-times world champion.

The impact was quite shocking but due to the presence of the halo, Hamilton was slightly hurt. Regardless of it, fans were concerned about the Knight, and Mercedes’ engineers, James Vowles and Andrew Shovlin give an update on their driver.

Shovlin and Vowles believe Lewis Hamilton would be ready for Russia

Seeing the horrible crash between the two title contenders. Many were wondering if Hamilton will be alright to participate in the race in Sochi after the injuries he suffered in Monza. However, Shovlin and Vowles believe with the help of Angela Cullen, Lewis’s physio, that he will be back.

In the race debrief, “I am pleased to say he is doing well. He has a sore neck, you will have seen in the photographs, just how far he got pushed forward during the incident, but he has got a bit of time to recover.”

“And he has got Angella with him, his physio. She will be looking after him as she does. So we are hoping we will see him in Russia fighting fit,” Hamilton concluded.

Hamilton is given a new perspective after his crash in Monza

F1 drivers always risk their life when they are zipping around the track at breakneck speeds. As Lewis was driving in Italy, his arch-rival, Verstappen took him out, which took a heavy toll on the Brit. It gave Hamilton a big shock and knows they are taking risks all the time in the sport.

As quoted from The Guardian, Hamilton said, “It’s a big shock. I’ve been racing a long time and we are taking risks out there all the time. It’s only when you experience something like that that you get that real shock and you look at life and realise how fragile we are.”
