Red Bull has been dominating, so naturally we feel for Mercedes and Ferrari, who are Red Bull’s arch-rivals. However, a new rivalry between the two midfield teams has been brewing for a couple of years now. Pierre Gasly who drives for one of these teams has now asked Alpine to buckle up as he looks at the humongous recovery that their rivals have made. Who is this team and what did Pierre Gasly say?

Since the introduction of the new regulations, McLaren and Alpine have been locked in the fight for the best midfield team. With Aston Martin making the jump this season, the two teams are fighting for P5 in the championship. McLaren lost a lot of ground coming into this year and looked like the worst team on the grid. However, through aggressive restructuring and upgrades, the Papaya team aims for that 5th in constructors.

Alpine has a subpar, but still, a better start compared to McLaren. Nonetheless, the upgrades brought to Austria by Mclaren look to have changed the car completely. Norris finished P5 after battling with the likes of Hamilton, Perez, and Sainz. Pierre Gasly and Alpine, who struggled at the Red Bull Ring, hailed McLaren for their performance upgrade, that almost felt like a supernatural recovery from the Woking outfit.

According to the YouTube video uploaded by Formula1 Recap, Pierre Gasly during a post-race interview said McLaren did a massive jump this weekend. They showed that it’s possible. So it should motivate all of us. We’ve got upgrades coming in the next few weekends so hopefully they can get us closer.”

As Pierre Gasly expects his team to take motivation from what McLaren has done, the Frenchman seemed content with the result achieved by him and his team as he further explained.

From the previous races, we know Alpine is in and around the pace of touching the Top 4 teams. The same was portrayed when Esteban Ocon scored the podium in Monaco. Nevertheless, Gasly explains how he beat Lance Stroll today and was behind the two Mercedes. Just a little bit of a push from upgrades and Alpine will be there alongside them.

According to the YouTube video uploaded by Formula1 Recap, Pierre Gasly said “I think overall we maximized the race with the points we could score. We managed to beat one Aston and we finished right behind the two Mercedes. But, ultimately we want more than P9 and we want to fight for bigger points. At this moment, I feel like we’re missing those 2 – 3 tenths to these guys”
