Unlike partners of most Team Principals, Geri Horner is often spotted in Formula One paddocks. Being the wife of Christian Horner and a former Spice Girl, she is no stranger to the spotlight. But there is one reputation she is tired of.

Ginger Spice, or as Formula One fans know her better, Geri Horner, married Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner in 2015. Before marrying Horner, she had a daughter, Bluebell Madonna, with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi. While there wasn’t much controversy around their marriage on Geri’s side, the marriage, however, drove a wedge between Christian’s family.

The controversy around Christian Horner and Geri’s marriage

Before marrying Geri, Christian was married to Beverly Allen for 14 years. Christian and Geri publically announced their relationship six months after his daughter, Olivia, from his first marriage, was born in October 2013. They announced their engagement in November 2014.

This apparently did not go down well with Christian’s parents and relatives. They decided to skip the wedding.

One day before the couple tied the knot, one of Horner’s relatives revealed that his parents were devastated and decided not to go to the wedding.

“Over the years Christian has been very close to his parents – particularly to his dad who shares his love of motor racing – but recent events have thrown everything into doubt. His mum is particularly upset,” a friend of the couple said. “Weddings are expected to bring families closer together, but this engagement has driven a wedge between people”.

A source further told The Mirror, “Geri is sick of being painted as a home wrecker.”

“She wants to be a good stepmother to Olivia, and for all three siblings to grow up with a good relationship, so she is determined to be on civil terms.”

Geri trying to make amends with Christian’s ex-wife

Beverly was completely kept in the loop before the announcement of the engagement. Geri was saddened to know that Christian’s parents did not approve of their marriage. She knows there has been a lot of “heartache” for Christian’s ex-wife, Beverly.

Talking about how Geri was trying to mend her relationship with Beverly, they said, “She knows there’s been a lot of heartache, but thinks that inviting Beverley over for children’s birthday teas is a good start towards building bridges between them”.
