Apart from being an ace F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton is quite a sports enthusiast. Among other sports, he is also a football fan and among the teams, he is an avid Arsenal FC supporter. However, that does not necessarily mean his entourage holds loyalty to the Gunners. His physical trainer and trusted confidante Angela Cullen was spotted with arch-rival club Chelsea FC’s Right-Back Reece James.

Lewis’ fandom for the Gunners was never a secret. Rewarding his loyalty, they invited the F1 champion to play with club legend Thierry Henry once, in an exhibition match. Lewis played against the legendary striker in the 5-a-side game. Lewis had Robert Pires, Sol Campbell, Tubes, and Ray Parlour. Henry had Jamie Carragher, Paul Merson, Jamie Redknapp, and Carlo Cudicini on his team. The game ended in Hamilton’s team losing in penalties after tying 5-5 on full time.

However, all that did not stop Angela from posing with Reece James. James is currently on the sidelines because of a knee injury he sustained during Chelsea’s game against Bournemouth. The English right-back aggravated a previous injury, which kept him out of the recently concluded FIFA World Cup. James is expected to stay away from regular action for at least a month.

Angela is, however, not the first to show proximity to the Blues. As Chelsea were recently looking for a new owner, Lewis was one among many who presented a bid to own the club.

Lewis Hamilton switched loyalty to bid for the rival club’s ownership

Chelsea were previously owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out, Abramovich faced fierce opposition to giving up the ownership of the club. As the Russian oligarch stepped down, the club management saw bids come in from who’s who of the world. Among them was the 7-time F1 champion.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Emilia Romagna GP, Hamilton said, “Ultimately I am a sporting fan. It is the biggest sport in the world and Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world and most successful. When I heard of the opportunity I thought, ‘wow, this is one of the greatest opportunities to be a part of something so great’.”

Learning his rival was switching loyalties, Max Verstappen took a dig at Lewis. “I am a PSV fan and I would never buy Ajax. And if I were going to buy a football club, I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.”
